Thats because my fridge is dead. Then I can just put all the food in a bug resistant bag & put it outside.
Actually it seems the only time I write in this journal is when something else of my clapped out stuff gives up the ghost & dies. Maybe that's why most people buy their stuff new! |

No name for the cat yet, perhaps she'll just have to be Puss. Or Puss in Fur (she aint got any boots!) |
|
This one is proving hard to name. But I'm just trying out 'Lady' to see if that suits her. She is a bit of a madam but she's too graceful & fluffy to be called Madam, she's got more class, more Ladylike.
So let's see if 'Lady' sticks. It's about time she had a name, poor puss. I've had her about 3 months now !! |

Actually that wasn't quite true, it didn't blow up at all - it just kept on quietly rolling along, with the wheels driving the engine not the other way round. It was only when the road started to go uphill I realised my old faithful friend was dead. The bit about the AA was true, and what the garage said was true as well.
There, I feel better now for having told the truth!Current Mood: cheerful

Yesterday my Ford Escort car was driving along quite happily when, without warning, it quietly brummed it's last & died then blew up with an almighty great flash & cloud of smoke. TRhe AA had to come & tow it away & the garage man said it's dead forever now, boo hoo. |
| » Mechanical death |
My tumble drier died recently in the middle of drying some clothes.
Last week, actually, on the 21st April.
It's quite funny cos it successfully dried about 4 loads then tripped all the fuses on the 5th, leaving me about 3 loads to dry spreading out on all the radiators in the house.
Yes, I had a lot of washing!
About a week later I turned the central heating off so it's as well it packed up then or I'd have been sweltering in the house after it got warm this week. I don't have a washing line outside, sadly.
If Maisie is still reading my diary I wonder if she'd be kind enough to tell me where she got her new washing machine from cos I might try the same place.
That means I've lost my cat, my tumble drier, & my violin pick up all in the same month!

| » Death in the family |
Not any person, but my lovely pussycat, Oscar.
The vet thought he had a virus but the antibiotics didn't have any effect.
Then he thought it was a tumour in his intestine which was making it too painful for him to eat. This may have contributed to him being sick a lot all over my house.
Oscar was put down about a month ago, ie about 28th March 2004 after unsuccesful treatment costing £150.
Goodbye my lovely friend.

I think you ought to know I'm very fed up. I've just taken a pill to make me feel better & it's made me feel very sick. Suddenly, like. How very odd.

I'm not sure if I should keep this diary going because the reason I started it was that I hoped it would generate replies. But most entries don't seem to generates replies. I could just keep it going anyway but that seems to defeat the point. A bit like watering a seed that never grows.

| » Recordable CDs |
Does anyone know if recordable CDs are available yet? I'm not talking about ones that can be recorded on from a computer but ones that can be recorded onto from a radio or casette, or onto 'live', ie from a mic on the CD player itself?
I've just finished doing a spate of recording on my ancient Fostex four track tape recorder. It seemed to record better putting two microphones into the recorder & recording acoustically than plugging the instruments into an amplifier then using a line out from the amp into the tape recorder. Funny that, I'd have thought using the amp to mix the sound first would have got a better result. I guess it just goes to show the simplest ways of doing things are often the best. Less to go wrong, maybe?

| » singing with vibrato |
I wonder if any singers can help me with this question?
Is singing with vibrato something you just can or can't do or is it a skill that can be learned. Vibrato certainly makes a lot of difference to a singer's voice, but it's something I've never been able to bring to my singing voice. When I hear singers with lovely voices but with no formal musical training I'm sometimes left wondering if it's a gift from God to the lucky chosen ones. Can anyone help me out here?

Heard this band at the Lowestoft folk club. Very good so I bought their CD, 'Rough as Our Souls'. Have just played it 4 times while chatting on LO then while checking the LO forums. They were at the 2003 Reedham festival & some good friends recommended them - I'm glad they did.
The next two guests are both fiddle players, good news for me as a fiddle player myself. 26th March is Roger Wilson & 9th April is Tom McConville. See http://www.waveneyfolk.co.uk for more details.
Had a bit of a & play with my old 4 track tape recorder today in preparation for recording a practise tape of all our band tunes. Hopefully this will lead to the recording of a CD sometime in the future, either with the 4 track & my computer or at a proper studio. I hope the latter, but time & expense are always a problem when you're paying for the time of an expert.

| » BIG promotion |
Hey, type Lowestoft into Google & my site www.joecapp.btinternet.co.uk comes up in 16th place!!! It used to be about 400th so this is a great promotion, that news has made me very happy.
LO has now beaten Lowestoft College into first place, so Darren must have worked out how to beat academic establishments which usually had priority in page rankings.

I've used up all my web space!! Now I need a new host for my website so it can keep growing. Since forums are the in thing - and since forums allow a site to be interactive that's something I'd like the new host to offer. Can anyone suggest a new host for me, please? All help and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I may be about to lose my lovely pussycat, Oscar. He's had a really nasty virus for about a month now & has got really thin & weak. The vet says if this present course of antibiotics doesn't work he'll have less that 50% chance of ever getting better. He was talking about having him put down as maybe the kindest option. Waaaaaaaaaaaaah, poor Oscar.

| » monks hairstyles |
Learned something interesting about monks last week.
They shaved their hair into that round circle with the hole in the middle to represent the crown of thorns Jesus had to wear while he was being tormented during his 'trial'.
It's a handy style since lots of men's baldness means they're halfway there anyway before they have to get the shaving razor out.

Snow pictures have now been chosen, resized, gamma corrected, colour adjusted, resized & sharpened - all 118 of them!
This is going to be the biggest set of pictures on my website at 12 pages long, & should be available early next week. The length is putting me off a bit & I may edit them down after seeing them online, but the hope is the comments won't take too long to write, then they'll be posted up & will be out of the way - hooray!!
